PRE/POST CARE: CHEMICAL PEEL

  • Your skin must be properly prepped prior to receiving certain peels:

A discussion about your current skincare routine and past peel treatments will help me understand your skin better. This will allow me to treat you safely and in the most effective manner possible.

Stop certain medications and/or skincare products prior to your appointment:

This would include any over the counter acne medications such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Also refrain from using any type of exfoliating ingredients that may contain active enzymes or AHA's (glycolic, lactic, malic, tartaric, citric, mandelic) for 3 days prior; for products that contain tretinoin, like Retin-A, discontinue for 7-10 days before your peel treatment.

    Accutane patients:

You must have stopped using Accutane one year prior to receiving a chemical peel.

Avoid any products/procedures that may be drying or irritating:

Such as waxing, electrolysis, masks, scrubs, exfoliants, tweezing, injections, microdermabrasion, microneedling, the use of a loofah sponge or any other product or service that may be drying/irritating to the skin.

    Do not:

Shave your face, dermaplane or use a face/eyebrow razor the day of your peel.

    If you have:

Open lesions, active cold sores, facial dermatitis or facial irruptions, you will need to postpone any peel treatments until after you have completely healed.

    You’re not a candidate for a peel:

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or currently on Accutane.

  • Avoid any aerobic or vigorous physical activity for the first 48 hours:

Avoid exercise and sweating for 48-72 hours, if possible. This includes avoiding anything that will raise your body temperature such as hot showers, saunas, steams and hot tubs.

    Sunscreen:

You will be required to wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater at all times for at least one week after your peel. And I will stress that you continue to use sunscreen to help protect your skin and maintain the benefits of your peel.

    Avoid direct sun exposure:

Too much sun exposure may cause improper healing and in some cases may reverse the benefits of the peel. Please refrain from using tanning beds and avoid sun exposure as much as possible.

    Treat the skin gently:

DO NOT EXFOLIATE AFTER YOUR PEEL... even though you may experience mildly red, dry or flaking skin for several days or more after your peel. Not all peels will result in skin flaking.

Do not pick or pull at peeling skin:

The dead skin will naturally slough off.

    Avoid any active skincare products:

Avoid products containing alpha and beta hydroxy acids, retinoids, and facial products containing fragrance for a few days after your peel.

    Consult with your Esthetician:
