COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY FAQ

  • Microchanneling is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure, similar to microneedling, which creates tiny punctures in the outermost layers of the skin. The process of creating these punctures or micro injuries, stimulates the body’s wound healing response and increases collagen and elastin production. Over time, the repeated healing process will build new collagen, improve skin tone, texture, and the overall appearance of the skin. The results will be healthy rejuvenated skin.

  • ProCell Microchanneling therapy is the next generation of Microneedling. The difference between the two therapies is the device and technique that is used. Microneedling uses a handheld roller covered in tiny needles or a pen type device, both of which are dragged over the skin, and can cause minor scratches and tears to the skin. ProCell Microchanneling on the other hand, uses a linear stamping technique creating clean and consistent micro-channels, which results in less trauma to the skin. The reduced tissue damage results in less inflammation and substantially decreased discomfort; consequently, there is a significantly shorter recovery time when compared to that of microneedling.

  • ProCell Therapies’ microchanneling device is safe, effective, and has won Dermascope Magazine’s Best Microneedling Device in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. ProCell Microchanneling is safe for all skin types. Whether you are fair or dark skinned, or experience chronic breakouts, properly conducted microchanneling treatments will not result in hyperpigmentation or other lasting negative effects.

  • Ideal candidates are those who seek improvement in the following areas:

    • Uneven skin tone & texture

    • Fine lines & wrinkles

    • Acne scars/ surgical scars

    • Stretch Marks

    • Enlarged pores

    • Hyperpigmentation

    • Rosacea

    • Dull looking skin complexion

    • Lost elasticity

  • Most clients are able to go through the procedure with minimal physical discomfort and without numbing cream. It is common after the procedure, to experience mild redness, tightness, and or a mild sunburn like sensation for the first 24 hours. In some cases the redness and tightness can last up to 48 hours.

  • • After the treatment, nothing topical should be applied for at least 90 minutes.

    • Avoid washing your face for the first 6 hours. You can wash the treated area carefully with a mild cleanser and then apply a gentle moisturizer. The cleanser and moisturizer should be free of any active or exfoliating ingredients.

    • Avoid wearing makeup for the first 12-24 hours after the treatment, longer if possible. Your skin is healing and repairing itself, so the less you do to it the better. Always wash your hands before touching your face and if you must use makeup, please make sure you are using CLEAN makeup brushes.

    • Do NOT exfoliate during the first 7 days.

    • Avoid direct sunlight for the first 7 days.

    • Wear proper sun protection when you are out in the sun.

    • Avoid vigorous exercise for the first 72 hours (this includes swimming).

    • Avoid anti-inflammatory medication post treatment, if possible. Inflammation is a crucial part of the healing process and taking NSAIDS will slow the rate at which your skin heals.

  • Though the production of new collagen can take several weeks, it is not abnormal to notice an improvement in the quality and appearance of your skin sooner. Results are usually seen 2-3 weeks after your treatment.

  • If you are looking for light anti-aging treatments, usually 1-3 treatments will be all you need. However, for deeper wrinkles and scarring, you may require 4-6 treatments to achieve desired results. Treatments are spaced 6 weeks apart.

  • You are not a suitable candidate for microchanneling if you have any of the following conditions:

    • Skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis, in the area to be treated

    • Cardiac abnormalities

    • You are pregnant

    • Infection of any type (bacterial, viral, or fungal)

    • Have had radiation therapy recently

    • Open wounds

    • Keloid scars

    • You are immunosuppressed

    • You have diabetes, hemophilia, or a bleeding disorder

    • You have been on Accutane within the last 1 year

    • Sunburned skin

  • • If you have a history of cold sores, take an antiviral 48 hours prior to you treatment and also the day of your appointment. If you forget to take the antiviral and you have a cold sore the day of your session, you will need to reschedule your appointment.

    • Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin 3 days prior to your treatment. This includes, but is not limited to retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids.

    • You should avoid taking NSAIDS (or other drugs or supplements that thin the blood) in the week leading up to your appointment. Thinner blood could result in some bruising.

    • If possible, please arrive at the office without makeup on and with a clean face (for men, a clean shaven face).

    • If you’ve had Botox, fillers or threads recently injected, please wait at least two weeks before considering this treatment.
