SUGARING / WAXING FAQ

  • • Long lasting smooth skin

    • No cuts or irritation from a razor

    • No dark, itchy stubble

    • Finer/thinner hair regrowth

    • Slower regrowth

  • Sugaring is a 100% natural form of hair removal. Sugar hair removal is an ancient Egyptian method that has been in use since 1900 BC. The sugar paste is made with three simple ingredients, sugar, lemon, and water. Sugaring is less painful than waxing and great for sensitive skin. It removes the entire hair and gently exfoliates, improving skin texture and tone; as well as, promoting smooth long lasting results.

  • • It is 100% pure and natural and contains only sugar, lemon and water.

    • It is never hot and will not burn the skin.

    • It does not adhere to live skin cells which makes it is less painful. Since it does not adhere to live skin, it will never lift or pull up the top layer of skin.

    • It is safe for eczema or psoriasis.

    • It is water soluble and wipes clean with water. You will never leave sticky.

    • It can extract shorter hairs (1/8 of an inch).

    • It can lead to permanency since you can extract the hair in the shorter, active stage of growth.

  • For any part of the body, the hair should be 1/4 of an inch long or the length of a grain of rice which is typically two weeks of growth. It’s okay if the hair is longer, there is no need to trim. I will do so if necessary.

  • • Gently exfoliate one day prior to your appointment to breakdown and loosen any built up dead skin cells around the base of the hair

    • Wear loose clothing

    • Avoid caffeine and alcohol 24 hours prior to the appointment

    • Some clients find taking Tylenol or Ibuprofen, 30 minutes prior to the appointment, helpful

  • This depends on the individual. What may seem painful for one person may seem painless for another. I am pulling hairs from their roots, which will likely cause some discomfort. The first time is the hardest, but it only gets easier from there. I will strive to ensure you are as comfortable as possible throughout the entire process and I will check in with you several times throughout the service.

  • Removing hair by the root (sugaring/waxing) reduces hair growth and results in the hair growing back thinner, making it easier to remove and less painful. Shaving just once will negate all that is gained, so I don’t advise it. It will be like starting over and remember, the first appointment is the most painful.

  • Yes you can. Please make sure you have a fresh tampon in or menstrual cup for any Bikini hair removal service. You may also experience more sensitivity during your cycle, but this is totally normal and common.

  • I use a hypoallergenic wax. It has no perfumes or colorants, and is free of pine rosins and preservatives making it safe for even those who have sensitive skin.

  • Hair growth cycles can vary slightly, but as a general rule the following apply:

    • Facial areas every 2-4 weeks

    • Underarms every 2-3 weeks

    • Bikini every 4 weeks

    • All other body areas every 4-6 weeks

  • Refrain from picking at ingrown hairs, as it can cause further irritation and scarring. There are specific aftercare products designed for treating ingrown hairs. I can help recommend the right product for you based on your skin sensitivity and type of ingrown hair/irritation to help you achieve the best waxing results.

  • Hair removal can be started whenever the child/teenager and parent feel comfortable. Parental or legal guardian consent is required for any hair removal service of those under the age of 18 and that parent or legal guardian must be present for the first visit; however, the parent/guardian does not need to be in the room while service(s) are being performed.

  • Yes you can. Keep in mind you may experience a little more sensitivity when getting sugared or waxed. If you are still unsure, consult your doctor.

  • There are certain antibiotics, medications, and anti-aging products that can cause skin sensitivity. In some cases, use of these products can result in lifting of the skin during the hair removal process.

There are medications and products that should be avoided/discontinued, as directed by your physician, prior to being sugared or waxed. Below is a list of general medications to be aware of:

    • Isotretinoin (Accutane) - must be off for 1 year

    • Adapalene (Differin)

    • Adapalene/Benzoyl Peroxide (Epiduo, Epiduo Forte)

    • Benzoyl Peroxide/Clindamycin (Duac, Benzaclin, Onexton, Acanya)

    • Hydroquinone (Alustra, Lustra, Lustra-AF)

    • Tazarotene (Avage, Tazorac, Fabior, Arazlo)

    • Tretinoin (Retin-A, Atralin, Altreno, Avita, Refissa, Renova)

    • Clindamycin Phosphate/Tretinoin (Ziana)
